The Diocese of Olympia’s Spring assembly was held at Hope Lutheran Church in Enumclaw, WA. It was so delightful to be with our Sisters in The Order. The ladies of Hope did a wonderful job of hosting!
We had a delightful time! Our enjoyment began with arrival as driving into Enumclaw with Mt Rainer visible is always wonderful!
Speaking of Driving! Ladies gathered in a variety of ways and from some interesting places! Longest distance traveled in a single day award belongs to Leah. Leah lives in Everett and made the roundtrip to Auburn where she joined a carpool to complete the distance to Enumclaw. Doreen did not travel the furthest but was the eldest lady present! Doreen, who is 97 years old, counts on Kathleen Nyhuis to see to it that she gets to DOK functions. Wendy is not ‘from around here’ as she actually lives in Yakima and is part of a Chapter in the Assembly of Spokane! She planned to stay in the area after the meeting to help breakup the trip. Jen Mariano, our speaker, flew in from the East Coast (Maryland). Then there is Noel. Noel, who is blind and depends on buses, made the trip to Enumclaw via Uber! How’s that for dedication?
Once gathered we shared refreshments provided by the ladies of Hope Chapter. Following the first part of the business meeting we worshipped together led by Pastor Keith Marshall of Hope Lutheran and our own Chaplain Pam Tinsley. Pastor Keith reminded us that in the Gospel of John we do not hear of The Last Supper but rather of The First Breakfast and our risen Lord and the 11 gather around a charcoal fire for that breakfast just as Peter warmed himself at a charcoal fire when he denied our Lord. Following the renewal of our vows to The Order we celebrated with “Lift High the Cross”.
After the second half of the business meeting we shared a delightful lunch of salads and sandwiches.
Jen presented The Strategic Plan of The Order and where we are in the implementation process. I won’t go into details but look for an audio recording of this soon. Later several ladies commented that they now understood why we needed a Strategic Plan! Hooray! Mission accomplished!
The Assembly is planned for Saturday, May 4th. We will be meeting at Hope Lutheran, Enumclaw. All women are invited so please ask your friends! We are planning an exciting program which includes our speaker, Jen Mariano, coming from National! Jen is the Strategic Planning Co-Chair.
